A monitor status summarizes the latest confirmed monitoring decision. It is different from the result of one individual check.
Up
Up means the latest confirmed monitoring result is healthy. The website returned a successful response or an additional HTTP status code you explicitly configured as acceptable.
A website can remain Up while a successful response is slower than your slow-response threshold. Slow responses are tracked as performance events instead of availability failures.
Down
Down means Uptime Basics confirmed that the website was unavailable according to the monitor's settings. Confirmation uses consecutive failures and checks from additional monitoring regions to reduce false outage reports.
Detailed Logs can contain an earlier failed check while the overall monitor still shows Up. This is expected when the failure did not meet the outage-confirmation requirements.
Pending
Pending means the monitor was created or reactivated successfully and is waiting for its first completed check. It is a normal temporary state, not a setup error.
If Pending remains beyond one complete configured interval plus the request timeout, open Detailed Logs to confirm whether the first check has been stored.
Unknown
Unknown means Uptime Basics has check activity but does not yet have enough reliable information to label the website Up or Down. For example, an initial failed result remains Unknown while outage confirmation is still in progress.
Unknown does not mean the website is Up or Down.
If Unknown remains for more than one expected check interval, open the monitor and review its Detailed Logs and Failure Diagnosis. If no checks appear, contact Support with the monitor name and URL.
Paused
Paused means checks are intentionally disabled. Existing history remains available under the normal retention rules, but the displayed status must not be treated as a current availability result.
A public status page can remain accessible for a paused monitor, but it identifies the monitor as paused rather than continuing to claim that the website is Up.
Status versus one check
The status card answers, "What is the latest confirmed state?" Detailed Logs answer, "What happened during each individual check?"
Use the incident page when you need to understand why multiple results became a confirmed outage or how a recovery was determined.
