Use Monitor Tools on a monitor's detail page to change how that monitor checks a website and how it communicates problems. Settings are grouped by purpose so you can change one area without rebuilding the monitor.
Open the monitor settings
- Sign in and open Monitors.
- Select the monitor card you want to change.
- Find Monitor Tools below the summary metrics.
- Select a settings button to open that section. On a smaller screen, open Choose settings section and select the section there.
- Select the active section again when you want to close it.

| Alert Channels | Email and SMS channel switches and verified destinations | Saves automatically after a selection changes |
| Slow Response Alerts | Performance threshold and number of consecutive slow checks | Select Save slow response alerts |
| Expiry Monitoring | SSL certificate and domain-expiry checks and warning periods | Select Save expiry monitoring |
| Public Status Page | Page availability and public display settings | Use Set up Page, Disable, or Manage settings |
| Advanced Request Options | Additional accepted HTTP codes, Basic Authentication, and custom request headers | Open Monitor Settings and select Save changes after editing |
| Detailed Logs | Opens the monitor's retained check records | This section does not change monitor settings |
The monitor name and monitored URL are established when the monitor is created and are not editable from the current Monitor Tools interface.
Change check timing or request behavior
- Open Monitor Settings.
- Choose an included Interval (minutes).
- Choose GET or HEAD as the request method.
- Select a timeout that is allowed for the interval.
- Leave Follow redirects enabled for most websites, or turn it off to evaluate the configured URL's first response.
- Select Save changes.
The page displays Saving... while the update is in progress and Settings saved. after the API accepts it. Do not leave the page until the saved message appears.
What Uptime Basics validates
When request behavior changes, Uptime Basics checks the new combination before replacing the saved settings. The update can be rejected when:
- the interval or timeout is not included with the current plan;
- every included one-minute slot is already in use;
- the URL resolves to a private, reserved, local, unsupported, or blocked destination;
- another active or paused monitor already uses the same normalized URL and request method;
- the endpoint returns a response that blocks admission and has not been intentionally accepted.
If validation fails, read the message shown on the page. The previously saved monitor configuration remains in place; correct the setting and try again.
Settings that affect future checks
New settings apply to checks scheduled after the update is saved. A check already running may finish with the previous configuration.
Changing an interval does not rewrite historical timestamps. Changing accepted HTTP codes affects future availability decisions, not check records that already exist. Existing raw checks, alerts, incidents, and rollups continue to follow their normal retention periods.
If a saved secret is already configured
Saved Basic Authentication passwords and custom-header values are not returned to the browser in plaintext. A saved field can therefore appear blank or indicate that a value is already set.
Leave the value blank to keep the saved secret. Enter a new value only when replacing it. Select No authentication and save when you intentionally want to remove Basic Authentication.
