Uptime Basics does not require a particular authenticator brand. Use an authenticator app that supports standard time-based one-time passwords (TOTP), QR-code enrollment, or manual secret-key entry.
Compatible app requirements
The app must be able to:
- scan a standard TOTP QR code or accept a manual setup key;
- generate a rotating six-digit code; and
- keep the authenticator entry available whenever you sign in.
Common compatible choices include Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, 1Password, Authy, and Bitwarden. Product availability, backup features, and device-transfer options are controlled by each app provider, not Uptime Basics.
Choose an app that fits your recovery needs
Before enrolling, consider whether the app supports a protected backup, device transfer, or another recovery method you trust. Uptime Basics does not issue downloadable backup codes for authenticator-app 2FA.
Do not store an unprotected screenshot of the QR code. Treat the manual setup key as a password because anyone with that key may be able to generate valid codes.
Add Uptime Basics to the app
- Open Account > Security.
- Select Set up 2FA.
- Add a new account in the authenticator app.
- Scan the QR code, or enter the manual setup key if scanning is unavailable.
- Enter the current six-digit code in Uptime Basics.
- Select Verify and enable 2FA.
Email and SMS verification-code tools are not substitutes for an authenticator app and do not enable sign-in 2FA.
If codes are rejected
Make sure the code comes from the Uptime Basics entry and enter the newest code before it changes. TOTP depends on accurate device time, so enable automatic date and time on the device if codes repeatedly fail.
