Disable two-factor authentication

Safely turn off authenticator-app two-factor authentication from an active Uptime Basics session.

You can disable authenticator-app two-factor authentication while signed in to Uptime Basics. After it is disabled, future sign-ins no longer require the six-digit authenticator code unless you set up 2FA again.

Disable 2FA

  1. Open Account from the customer dashboard.
  2. Select the Security tab.
  3. Find Two-factor authentication.
  4. Select Disable 2FA.
  5. Review the confirmation and select Disable 2FA again.

Uptime Basics shows a success confirmation when the account identity service has disabled the authenticator factor. The disable button is hidden when authenticator-app 2FA is not active.

Before disabling it

Disabling 2FA reduces sign-in protection. If you are replacing a phone or authenticator app, keep the current app available until you are signed in and ready to enroll the replacement.

A verified email address, verified phone number, or website-ownership verification does not replace sign-in 2FA.

Set it up again

Return to Account > Security and select Set up 2FA. A new QR code and manual setup key are generated during enrollment. Confirm the new six-digit code before removing the old authenticator entry from your devices.

If you cannot sign in because the authenticator is unavailable, use the lost-access process instead of creating another account.
