Add and verify a phone number

Add a Canadian or US phone number, verify access with an SMS code, and make it available for account contact or monitor alerts.

Verified phone numbers can be selected for account contact, account-wide SMS alert defaults, and individual monitor alerts. Transactional SMS delivery is enabled for supported customer destinations in Canada and the United States.

Before you begin

  • Choose the correct country code and use a phone that can receive SMS messages.
  • A verification code contains six digits and is valid for 15 minutes.
  • You can store up to eight verified or pending phone destinations.
  • Verification codes do not use the plan's monthly monitor-alert SMS allowance.

Add and verify a phone number

  1. Open Account > Alerts.
  2. Find Verified phone numbers.
  3. Choose the country code and enter the phone number.
  4. Select Add phone and then Send code.
  5. Enter the six-digit code received by SMS.
  6. Select Verify.

The number changes from Pending to Verified and becomes available in phone destination lists.

What this verification means

The SMS code confirms access only to that phone number. It does not enable authenticator-app 2FA, verify an email address, change the login identity, or prove ownership of a monitored website.

Enabling SMS alerts is a separate choice. A verified number does not receive monitor alerts until SMS is enabled as an account default or for a specific monitor.

Operational alert messages include instructions to reply STOP to opt out. When the mobile provider records an opt-out, Uptime Basics suppresses further application SMS to that number. Contact Support before attempting to use an opted-out number again.

If the code is not accepted

  • Confirm the displayed country code and number are correct.
  • Enter only the newest code sent to that number.
  • Request a new code if 15 minutes have passed.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds before requesting another code.
  • After five incorrect attempts, request a new code.
