Deleting a monitor removes it from active monitoring immediately and places it in Recently deleted for 30 days. During that recovery period, the monitor can be restored in a paused state. Permanent cleanup begins after the recovery period or when the account owner deliberately selects Delete permanently.
Use Pause monitor or archive the monitor instead when you may need its configuration or incident history again.
Before you delete
Consider whether you still need:
- Detailed check logs for troubleshooting or export.
- Incident history and retained diagnostics.
- Alert-delivery history.
- Long-range uptime and response-time summaries.
- The monitor's request headers, accepted status codes, authentication, or alert configuration.
- Its public status page, slug, branding, or custom-domain setup.
Export any raw checks you need for long-term use before deleting. Raw checks, alerts, and rollups continue to age under their normal retention periods while the monitor is in Recently deleted, so restoring a monitor does not bring back records that already expired.
Delete a monitor
- Open Monitors from the dashboard.
- Select the monitor card you want to remove.
- Select Delete monitor near the top of Monitor Details.
- Review the confirmation, including the monitor name.
- Select Delete monitor to confirm.
After the delete request succeeds, Monitor Details returns you to the dashboard and hides the removed monitor. Its monitor slot and any one-minute slot it used become available for another monitor. Find the recoverable item under Archived Monitors > Recently deleted.
What changes immediately
The active monitor record is removed first. This stops future scheduling and prevents the old Monitor Details URL from opening while the item is deleted.
If the monitor has a Uptime Basics status-page slug, the public snapshot is removed and the page is disabled. The slug remains reserved during the recovery period so another account cannot claim it while the monitor can still be restored.
Restore during the 30-day recovery period
- Open Archived Monitors from the dashboard settings menu.
- Find Recently deleted.
- Select Restore paused for the monitor.
- Review its URL, request settings, alert destinations, and any saved status-page settings.
- Activate the monitor only after confirming the configuration is still appropriate.
Restoration can be blocked if the current plan has no monitor capacity, the target is no longer permitted, or another active monitor now uses the same URL and request method. Resolve the displayed issue and try again before the recovery deadline.
The monitor returns paused, with no current Up or Down result. A new result appears only after the customer activates it and a new check completes.
Delete permanently
Select Delete permanently in Recently deleted only when recovery is no longer needed. This action cannot be undone through the customer dashboard. It queues the protected cleanup process immediately instead of waiting for the end of the 30-day period.
What background cleanup removes
The dedicated cleanup process removes associated data in bounded batches:
- Raw check records.
- Alert-history records.
- Availability and performance incidents.
- Aggregated uptime and response-time rollups.
- Uploaded status-page logo and favicon objects.
- Custom-domain status snapshots and managed custom-domain resources.
Large histories can require more than one cleanup job. This is expected and avoids making the customer wait for every historical record to be removed before returning to the dashboard.
Normal data-retention windows continue while the item is recoverable. Once permanent cleanup starts, the cleanup process removes retained monitor data even if a normal retention window would otherwise be longer.
Custom status domains
Custom-domain retirement can take longer than removing the main monitor because certificate and delivery configuration must be safely detached. Do not immediately point a retired custom domain at an untrusted destination. Update or remove its DNS record when the status-page settings or Support instructions tell you to do so.
What monitor deletion does not delete
Deleting one monitor, including permanent cleanup, does not delete:
- Your Uptime Basics account.
- Other monitors or their data.
- Your subscription, invoices, or billing profile.
- Account contacts, verified destinations, or account-wide alert defaults.
- Security and administrative records that must be kept separately for account safety, billing, fraud prevention, or legal obligations.
If the monitor still appears briefly
The dashboard uses a short-lived private cache to load quickly. A successfully deleted monitor is hidden locally while the refreshed dashboard is retrieved. If a stale card remains, wait for the dashboard update or reload the page. Selecting a deleted monitor returns Monitor not found until it is restored.
Contact Support if the monitor continues to appear after a refresh or if its public status page remains active after the deletion has had time to process.
