Archive and reactivate a monitor

Understand when monitors are archived during a plan change, what remains stored, and how to safely reactivate a saved configuration.

Archiving preserves a monitor configuration without using active plan capacity or running new checks. In the current customer workflow, monitors are archived when a scheduled plan downgrade takes effect and you previously selected Archive for those monitors.

There is no standalone Archive action on Monitor Details. Use Pause monitor for a temporary stop that should remain on the main dashboard.

Choose monitors to archive during a downgrade

  1. Open Account, then Billing.
  2. Choose a lower plan and review the transaction-style plan-change summary.
  3. In Prepare your downgrade, review the numbered monitor list.
  4. Choose Keep active, Archive, or Delete for each monitor as needed.
  5. Choose an allowed interval for each monitor that will remain active.
  6. Confirm the scheduled plan change.

The selections do not apply immediately. Your current plan and monitors remain active until the renewal date shown in Billing. You can edit or cancel the scheduled change before that date.

When the downgrade takes effect, an archived monitor is disabled, removed from the active monitor list, and placed in Archived monitors. A monitor selected for deletion moves to Recently deleted and can be restored paused for 30 days if the new plan has capacity.

What an archive keeps

An archive keeps the monitor identity and saved configuration, including its name, URL, request method, prior interval, and settings needed for later reactivation.

Monitoring data continues to age normally while the monitor is archived:

  • raw check logs remain for 30 days;
  • alert history remains for 14 days;
  • aggregated rollups remain for up to 400 days;
  • incident history remains for the life of the monitor.

Archiving does not pause or extend a retention clock. Data that expires while archived cannot be restored.

Find archived monitors

  1. Return to the customer dashboard.
  2. In the Monitors section, select Archived.
  3. Review the saved monitor cards and active-capacity summary.
  4. Use the page-size selector and Previous or Next when the archive contains multiple pages.

Archived monitors do not count toward the current plan's active monitor limit or one-minute allowance.

Reactivate an archived monitor

  1. Open Archived monitors.
  2. Find the monitor you want to restore.
  3. Choose an interval available on the current plan.
  4. Select Reactivate.
  5. Review the custom confirmation and select Reactivate again.

After a successful reactivation, the monitor returns to the dashboard and begins checking at the selected interval. Its live status starts fresh, so wait for a new check rather than relying on the result recorded before it was archived.

Why reactivation may be blocked

Before reactivation, Uptime Basics verifies that:

  • the plan has an unused active-monitor slot;
  • the selected interval is included with the plan;
  • a one-minute slot is available when one minute is selected;
  • the destination still resolves to an allowed public HTTP or HTTPS target;
  • the target is not covered by a platform block rule;
  • no active or paused monitor already uses the same URL and request method.

Choose a longer interval, free plan capacity, or use the existing matching monitor when one of these checks prevents reactivation.

Delete an archived monitor

Select Delete to remove the monitor from the archive and move it to Recently deleted. It remains recoverable for 30 days while time-limited history continues to age normally. Select Delete permanently from Recently deleted only when recovery is no longer needed.
