The 30-day trial uses the full Starter plan. Stripe securely stores the required payment method, and Uptime Basics does not charge the subscription price when an eligible trial begins.
Signup location availability
New accounts require an accurate billing-location declaration before email verification. New accounts with Quebec billing addresses are not currently available while French-language service, documentation, contracts, and support are prepared. Select the location that matches the billing address you will provide to Stripe.
Trial timeline
| Time | What happens |
|---|---|
| Signup | Verify your email and add a valid payment method through Stripe. No subscription charge is made. |
| During the trial | Use all Starter limits, including 10 monitors and 20 SMS segments per calendar month. |
| 7 days before trial end | Uptime Basics emails a billing reminder. |
| 1 day before trial end | Uptime Basics emails a final reminder. |
| Trial end | Unless canceled, Stripe charges $4.99 USD and the Starter subscription renews monthly. |
| Failed first payment | A three-day grace period begins. Monitoring pauses only if payment remains unresolved. |
Cancel before the first charge
Open Account > Billing and select Cancel subscription. Cancellation is scheduled for the trial end, so the account remains usable for the time already included in the trial. Stripe does not charge the Starter subscription price at trial end.
Keep the subscription after canceling
Before the cancellation takes effect, use Don't cancel subscription on the Billing tab. The original trial end and automatic renewal schedule resume.
Upgrade before the trial ends
Selecting Plus or Pro ends the trial immediately. Uptime Basics displays a transaction-style confirmation with the plan and amount due. Stripe charges the full monthly price of the selected plan after confirmation, and its limits activate immediately.
Repeated trials
The free trial is limited to one per customer or organization, verified email address, and payment method. Changing an email address does not create eligibility when the payment method has already received a trial. Organization information may also be reviewed when investigating abuse.
If a new trial is rejected, the account remains available for billing review but monitoring and alerts stay stopped. The customer can choose Starter, Plus, or Pro from Account > Billing and continue to Stripe Checkout without another trial. Stripe displays the final total and applicable tax before payment. The paid account activates only after Stripe confirms payment, and previously stopped monitors remain off until the customer reviews and reactivates them.
Payment failure and recovery
When payment fails, Uptime Basics emails the account address and displays a Billing warning with the grace deadline. Update the payment method through the Stripe Billing Portal. If the three-day grace period expires, active monitors and alerts pause; configuration and retained data remain. Monitors paused specifically for billing are restored after payment succeeds.
