Login, contact, alert, and billing email differences

Understand which Uptime Basics email is used for sign-in, account contact, monitor alerts, and Stripe billing, and how each verification applies.

An Uptime Basics account can use different email addresses for different jobs. Verifying one address does not automatically verify every address or change the email used to sign in.

Email types at a glance

Email type What it is used for How it is verified
Login email Signing in and identifying the customer account Verified during signup
Account contact email Service notices and account-related support communication Selected from the account's verified emails
Default alert email Default destination assigned to newly created monitors Selected from the account's verified emails
Monitor alert email Email destination for one monitor Selected from the account's verified emails
Billing email Stripe receipts, invoices, payment notices, and subscription communication Managed by Stripe's billing records

What signup verification does

The six-digit signup code confirms access to the login email before the account is created. That address becomes the account's first verified contact and alert email, so it can be selected immediately after signup.

Signup verification does not verify a different email destination, a phone number, a monitored domain, or an authenticator app.

What destination verification does

When you add another address under Account > Alerts, Uptime Basics sends a new code to that exact address. Entering the code allows that address to be selected for account contact or monitor alerts.

Adding and verifying an address does not change the login email. It also does not prove ownership of a monitored website.

What billing email means

Stripe maintains the customer information used for invoices, receipts, payment failures, and subscription notices. Updating an Uptime Basics alert destination does not necessarily update Stripe billing information. Use Manage billing in Stripe when the billing record needs to change.

Other verification is separate

  • Phone destination verification confirms access to one Canadian or US phone number for SMS communication.
  • Status-page ownership verification proves control of a monitored website or domain before branding, analytics, or a custom status domain can be used.
  • Authenticator-app 2FA protects sign-in using a time-based code and does not verify an email or phone destination.
