The official Uptime Basics Terms of Service describe the agreement between customers and Shane-Andrew Syring, carrying on business as StackResolve, the Ontario sole proprietorship that operates Uptime Basics, for using customer accounts, website monitoring, alerts, public status pages, billing, trials, and support.
This Help article is a plain-language navigation guide. The official Terms of Service control if this summary and the terms differ.
Authorized monitoring
Only monitor websites, domains, URLs, endpoints, or services that you own, operate, administer, or are otherwise authorized to monitor.
Uptime Basics must not be used for denial-of-service activity, vulnerability probing, spam, phishing, impersonation, unauthorized scraping, attempts to bypass technical controls, or other unlawful or harmful activity.
Monitoring results and service availability
Uptime Basics performs automated checks from cloud infrastructure. Results may be affected by DNS, routing, regional connectivity, firewalls, rate limits, SSL or TLS configuration, redirects, authentication requirements, and third-party behavior.
No monitoring service can guarantee perfect accuracy, immediate detection, uninterrupted alert delivery, or identical results from every location.
Plans, trials, and billing
The terms cover:
- Published monitor, interval, timeout, and SMS limits.
- A 30-day Starter trial requiring a valid payment method.
- Automatic Starter renewal at $4.99 USD per month unless canceled.
- Immediate paid checkout for Plus and Pro, which do not include a free trial.
- Immediate paid activation and billing when upgrading during a trial.
- Prorated upgrades and end-of-period downgrades where applicable.
- A three-day payment-failure grace period.
- End-of-period subscription cancellation and monitor behavior afterward.
Stripe provides secure checkout, payment method management, invoices, receipts, and the hosted billing portal.
Public status pages
Public status pages are optional. Customers are responsible for the title, description, slug, monitored URL, branding, analytics tag, custom domain, and other content they publish. Do not impersonate another organization, misuse trademarks, or claim control over a domain or brand without permission.
Fair use and automatic protections
Uptime Basics may temporarily adjust effective monitoring behavior, suppress duplicate notifications, limit repeated diagnostics, or pause a timeout-heavy monitor to keep the service reliable. Customer-visible protections do not rewrite Up or Down results, add usage-overage charges, or require a plan upgrade to clear.
Support and credential safety
When you request assistance, authorized personnel may use role-restricted administrative access to information reasonably needed to resolve the request. Privileged views and changes are logged, and support monitor changes require a reason.
Signed-in support requests may be stored as tickets with customer and support replies. If you choose a monitor or incident in the support form, the ticket may include a limited safe diagnostic summary to help investigate the issue. You remain responsible for reviewing the message you submit and for excluding confidential information that support does not need.
Never send support your password, authenticator code or setup secret, verification code, complete payment card details, authorization headers, cookies, API keys, or protected-endpoint passwords.
Suspension, cancellation, and deletion
Access may be restricted for abuse, security risk, nonpayment, unlawful use, or violation of the terms. Subscription cancellation and account deletion are separate actions. Account deletion is support assisted and uses a reversible 30-day waiting period after approval.
Warranties, liability, and disputes
The official terms explain that monitoring is informational and is not a substitute for backups, security controls, emergency services, or independent incident response. They include warranty disclaimers, exclusions for indirect and consequential losses, an aggregate liability cap where permitted by law, a business-customer indemnity for third-party claims caused by misuse, and Ontario governing law and venue. Mandatory consumer rights that cannot lawfully be waived remain unaffected.
