Status-page analytics can help you understand when visitors look for outage information. It measures visits to the public status page; it does not change website checks, incident confirmation, uptime calculations, or monitor alerts.
Before you begin
You need:
- Verified ownership of the monitored website.
- A Google Analytics 4 property or Google Tag Manager container you control.
- The applicable Google tag ID.
- Privacy disclosures appropriate for your visitors and jurisdiction.
Uptime Basics accepts a controlled tag identifier, not pasted JavaScript. Supported formats are:
- Google Analytics 4 or Google tag:
G-XXXXXXXXXXorGT-XXXXXXXXXX - Google Tag Manager:
GTM-XXXXXXX
Enable analytics
- Open the monitor's Public Status Page settings.
- Open Analytics.
- Turn on Enable analytics.
- Select Google Analytics 4 / Google tag or Google Tag Manager.
- Enter the tag ID, not the complete script provided by Google.
- Select Save analytics settings.
Analytics is available on the shared status-page address as well as an active custom domain. A custom domain is not required.
Visitor consent
The configured Google tag does not load until a visitor selects Allow analytics on the status page. Declining keeps the tag off and removes matching Google Analytics cookies for that status-page host.
After making a choice, visitors can use Privacy choices to review or change it. Consent is saved in the browser for the current status-page hostname and tag ID, so changing either can produce a new consent prompt.
For direct Google Analytics tags, Uptime Basics requests IP anonymization and disables Google Signals and advertising-personalization signals. If you use Google Tag Manager, you remain responsible for the tags configured inside your container and their privacy behavior.
Verify collection
- Open the public status page in a private browser window.
- Select Allow analytics.
- Use Google's Realtime report or Tag Assistant to confirm the visit.
- Allow for reporting delay outside realtime views.
Testing while consent is declined will correctly produce no analytics request.
Disable analytics
Turn off Enable analytics and save the analytics settings. New page loads will stop offering and loading the configured tag. Disabling it does not delete data already stored in your Google account.
Privacy responsibilities
You are responsible for the Google account, container configuration, retention choices, privacy policy, and any consent requirements that apply to your organization. Do not use a tag ID you do not control or configure Tag Manager to bypass the status page's visitor choice.
