Choose and change a status-page slug

Choose a trustworthy shared status-page URL, follow slug rules, resolve conflicts, and understand what happens when the URL changes.

The slug is the final part of the shared public URL. In https://status.uptimebasics.com/example-status, the slug is example-status.

Slug requirements

A status-page slug must:

Contain 3 to 60 characters.
Use lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens only.
Begin and end with a letter or number.
Be based on the monitored website's registered domain.
Be unique across Uptime Basics status pages.
Avoid reserved system words and protected third-party brand names.

These rules reduce impersonation, misleading URLs, and deliberate slug reservation for websites the account does not monitor.

Choose a clear slug

For https://example.com, suitable choices include:

example
example-status
example-monitor
example-website

Keep it short enough to share and clear enough that visitors understand which website it represents.

Change the slug

Open the monitor.
Open Public Status Page and select Manage settings.
On Overview, edit Page URL slug.
Select Save status page.
Confirm that the displayed public URL uses the new slug.

When the change succeeds, the new slug is reserved for the monitor and the old shared URL is removed. Public caching can cause a short transition before every visitor sees the change.

Update links on your website, support templates, bookmarks, and incident communications after changing the slug.

If the slug is changed automatically

When enabling a page, the editor checks whether the slug represents the monitored domain. If it does not, the editor can replace it with a domain-based suggestion and show a message explaining the change.

If the slug is rejected

The editor can reject a slug because it:

Does not match the monitored domain.
Is already used by another monitor.
Is reserved for an application route.
Uses a protected brand unrelated to the monitored domain.
Has invalid characters or length.

Use one of the domain-based suggestions, or contact support if you control the domain but a valid slug is unavailable.

Disabled and deleted pages

Disabling a page keeps its slug reserved for that monitor. Deleting the monitor also reserves the slug during the 30-day recovery period. Permanent monitor cleanup removes the page record and releases the slug.
